The Wheat Quarter’s planning has been a long and complex story. Now, IJM Land, a major developer, has acquired the site and will be submitting fresh plans to Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council by year’s end.
There’ll be a chance to have your say on the Wheat Quarter’s new proposals at a public consultation. Come along and share your thoughts!

The Society raised concerns about the limited consultation window. We’ve requested longer hours and additional dates, like weekends, to allow more people to see the plans. The developer has kindly agreed to hold another consultation, provisionally on Saturday 26th October from 2pm onwards. Check the consultation website (https://wheatquarter-consultation.co.uk) for confirmed details.
We’ve also suggested displaying the proposals in prominent public locations, such as the library or an empty shop unit in the Howard Centre.
We aim to share some key points to consider when reviewing the consultation proposals by Wednesday 16th October 2024.
Please note: Social housing provision IS NOT part of this development. It’s planned for the South Site owned by Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing (MTVH), and we understand they’ll be presenting revised proposals for that area.
