We care about Welwyn Garden City and together we are stronger.
Join the Society now and add your voice to ours!
The Society would greatly appreciate your support as a member. We highly value any contributions you are able to make and your membership enables us to actively carry out our work.
Membership only cost around £1.20 PER MONTH – much less than buying a single Starbucks coffee every four weeks!
We ask that membership is thought of as a small donation to help the Society continue raising awareness of issues surrounding the ongoing development of our beautiful town. We aim to cultivate nuanced, frank, and honest discussion with the local authorities, and to initiate campaigns, actions and protests where appropriate.
Members receive the bi-annual magazine, which help keep them in touch with the many wonderful things going on in and around the town, the activities of the Society and what the committee are doing on their behalf. This information can often form a useful discussion point when visiting friends. Members also receive other email communictions.

The newsletter also provides a considered explanation of what may have become an all-out political argument – the Society is usually pressing for a sensible outcome – always with the interests of the town and its residents foremost on the agenda.
A selection of our older newsletters can be read from our online archive by clicking HERE.
From time to time, the Society will call meetings to consider important issues that face the town, and there is an annual general meeting every year.
For those who want to be more active, then membership of the committee is always a possibility. It does, of course, involve more time, but even if it is just a particular area or campaign that you are interested in helping with, we really do welcome all the assistance you can give. If you want to play an active part in preserving our town, please contact any member of the committee.
Members are always welcome to sit in on committee meetings to see how the discussions proceed. Just contact the Society by clicking on the tab “Contact us”.
The Society can often put members in touch with others who may be able to help them with a particular local issue, and we have good links and relationships with many local decision-makers, including council officers and councillors.
By joining us, you are helping to preserve what we have in Welwyn Garden City, as well as helping to ensure future developments are in the best interests of the town and its residents.
If you don’t wish to join now, but would like to make a donation you can do so below. ANY donation amount is very gratefully received – Thank you.
We are pleased to announce you can now purchase annual membership online via the secure Paypal platform using all major bank cards or your Paypal account. All transactions are handled securely through the Paypal website, not through the Society’s website. We always welcome new members, the more members we have the more effective a local voice we have. The Society is for all the town’s residents, regardless of where people may live.
Membership per household costs £10 per year aged 60 or over, £15 per year aged under 60. Our membership year runs from 1st April to 31st March the following year.
Existing members: We request that if possible existing members renew their annual membership by standing order or cheque (see below) rather than by Paypal through this web page.
If you want to pay by bank card simply click the button “Pay with Debit or Credit card” after clicking on “Buy Now” above. Membership can also still be purchased by completing our Membership Application Form and posting it with a cheque to our membership secretary at the address given on the bottom of the form.
If you want to purchase membership as a gift for someone else please do so above, and then email us at membership@wgcsociety.org with the cardholder’s name (your name) and the name, address, email and phone number of the person the gift membership is for. Please also let us know whether you want the membership letter to be sent to you, the cardholder, or directly to them.
Our annual membership fee allows us to go on producing and posting high quality newsletters to our members. It also sustains our Fighting Fund which is used to pay for legal advice and other items such as additional printed materials as needed for new local campaigns on specific issues. Membership subscriptions also help us pay for the cost of room hire and equipment if required for campaigns. Our committee members are all volunteers, nobody is paid to perform any role. Funds raised are used to sustain and underpin our work, and fulfill the remit of our constitution.
