The next stage in a potential Town/Parish Council for Welwyn Garden City is underway. The Council consultation with residents is open until 30 June 2026.
In simple terms the benefits of a Town/ Parish Council are summarised in the acronym SPADE and include:
Stand Up for Welwyn Garden City, keep local decisions local and stop the decline.
Protect local assets our green spaces, community facilities and local services (e.g. Campus West, King George playing fields) from being reduced/ sold off.
Attract funding, sponsorship and new opportunities focussed via a Neighbourhood Development Plan.
Deliver good value local services (the initial scope will be outlined in the next consultation).
Encourage community wellbeing support activities, events and improvements. Also encourage local businesses and employers.
The resident consultation can be done very quickly in 2 minutes. We suggest that you support a WGC Town/ Parish council in all appropriate questions. Remember this consultation is being input via each resident so please encourage all members of your household (and neighbours) to support a WGC Town/ Parish council.
The consultation, further information and opportunities for residents to offer help is on the Welwyn Garden City Town Council Campaign website: https://www.wgctowncouncilcampaign.org/ The Campaign is supported by the Welwyn Garden City Society.
The consultation is open until 30 June 2026 – so PLEASE DO IT NOW. Your Voice, Your Choice!
P.S. A final resident consultation will take place later in the year based on the initial proposals.
